Pupil Premium - PE and Sport Premium

Pupil Premium

The Pupil Premium is an allocation of additional funding provided to schools to support specific groups of children who are vulnerable to possible underachievement. These include pupils who are entitled to free school meals, those looked after by the local authority and children of armed service personnel. The intended effect of this funding is to accelerate progress and raise attainment.

In most cases the Pupil Premium is allocated to schools and is clearly identifiable. It is for schools to decide how the Pupil Premium, allocated to schools per FSM pupil, is spent, since they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual pupils within their responsibility.
In making provision for socially disadvantaged pupils we recognise that not all pupils who receive free school meals will be socially disadvantaged. We also recognise that not all pupils who are socially disadvantaged are registered or qualify for Free School Meals.

We reserve the right to allocate the Pupil Premium funding to support any pupil, or groups of pupils, the school has legitimately identified as being socially disadvantaged.

All schools are required to report on the amount of funding received, how this is being used, and the impact of any work done.

For the 2016/2017 Academic Year we have been allocated
£141, 570 (Please see specific 2016/2017 action plan below)

This was, and continues to be used as follows:

  • To provide enhanced provisions for pupils at little or no extra cost, such as swimming, guitar, extra clubs and school visits and visitors.
  • To employ a Learning Mentor, who provides a targeted level of support to some of our most vulnerable children so as they can make the progress expected of them. To work with parents/carers, children, school staff, other agencies and volunteers, to develop and maintain family support and to provide a link between the home and school in order to raise attendance, attainment and to maximise their life chances.
  • To provide intervention programmes in reading, writing or mathematics for underachieving pupils and those with SEN. This might be in the form of 1:1 tuition, small group work with a TA or SENCO.
  • To provide parents of Pupil Premium children with a £75 voucher to contribute towards things such as: school uniform, school trips, etc.

We use this money to subsidise educational visits, in-school activities and residential trips. Financial support is also given towards the purchase of school uniform, music tuition and extended schools clubs. All matters regarding the use of Pupil Premium funds are treated with discretion and in confidence.

The impact of this work is closely monitored in school and the outcomes will be reported at the end of the Academic Year focusing on attainment, attendance and levels of progress across the cohort of Free School Meal children.
